Our horses do ordinary horse things, only slightly sideways. A pony carries a wobbling tower of apples on its back and pretends nothing is happening. A foal has legs so long it must splay them right out to sniff one flower. And one horse has the hiccups, so all four hooves leave the ground at once.

The simple pages with big open shapes suit children from 3; the scenes with the hay cart, the carousel and the braided mane are better for 5–8. The best part to color is the mane and tail — large, calm shapes that are hard to get wrong.

What to do with a finished picture

A mane out of yarn

Color the horse, then glue short pieces of yarn along the mane — it turns fluffy and can be combed.

A horse that stands up

Cut the horse out along the outline and fold a tab at the bottom so it stands on the table.

A herd on the wall

Color several horses, cut them out and stick them in a row — you get one long meadow across the wall.

Questions from parents

Are these suitable for younger children?

Yes. The mane, tail and body are large closed shapes, so a three-year-old can fill them. Save the hay cart and the carousel for later.

Are there ponies, or only big horses?

Both — ponies, foals and grown horses sit in the same set so a child can pick their own.

How do I print without anything being cut off?

The PDF is safest: the A4 margins are already built in. The “Print” button also prints just the picture, without the page menu.
