Name tracing worksheets
Type a name, choose the letter size, and download a printable PDF. The first row is solid gray for easy tracing, then rows with a light dashed line, then only the first letter, then a blank line for writing on their own.
Paste a whole class list and every child gets their own page in one file. It is free, there is no sign-up, and the names never leave your device: the PDF is made right in your browser.
How the worksheet works
Each page moves from tracing to writing, so a child can finish it in one sitting:
- a solid gray name to trace over with a crayon or pencil
- three rows with a light dashed line along the middle of each stroke, like a real handwriting book (or dots, if you prefer)
- two rows with only the first letter dotted — the child writes the rest
- the guide lines show where tall letters stop and where the small letters sit
For teachers: the whole class in one file
Paste your class list, one name per line, and download a single PDF with a page for every child. There is no limit on the number of names, and nothing is uploaded: the list stays on your computer, which matters when the names belong to your students.
Print it on Letter or A4, use it for name practice at the start of the year, for cubby labels, or as a quiet morning task.
Which letter size to choose
Big letters suit three- and four-year-olds who are still holding a crayon in a fist. Medium works for most preschoolers. Small is closer to the size a child writes in kindergarten.
If a name is too long for the line, the letters shrink a little so the name fits, and very long text wraps onto the next line.
Questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Make as many worksheets as you need, for home or for a class. There is no account, no email and no watermark.
Can I use other letters, not only English?
Yes. The generator handles accents and other alphabets too: José, Zoë, Łucja or Ярослав all work.
Can I make an alphabet worksheet?
Open the “Alphabet” tab: capital and small letters in pairs, only capitals or only small letters. The “Numbers” tab gives 0–9 or 1–20.
Where are the names stored?
Nowhere. The PDF is built in your browser, so the names are never sent to us or anyone else.
