Lina, the Sheep Who Wandered

In a green valley where everyone follows the same worn path, a little sheep named Lina chooses her own way. This is a story about curiosity, the courage to be different, and trusting the quiet voice inside. It reminds small readers that sometimes the ones who wander off the beaten track are the ones who see what matters most.

In a green valley, cradled among tall hills and meadows bright with flowers, there lived a great flock of soft, white, well-behaved sheep.

Their days all looked the same. Every morning they walked the same path to the pasture, drank from the same familiar brook, and came home to the fold at the very moment the shepherd's little bell went ring-a-ling.

Every sheep, that is, except Lina. She was the one who always drifted off the trail. Well-trodden paths never tempted her — Lina explored new clearings, stopped in the middle of the road to sniff a flower she'd never met, or watched, spellbound, as the sun danced in the beads of morning dew.

She often fell behind and slipped out of sight, but she always came back — a little tangled, a little tired, yet with eyes that shone from everything she had discovered.

“Why are you forever dawdling off on your own?” grumbled old Marta, a sheep who knew every rule and always kept to the order of things. “Because I like to see the world from more than just the path everyone walks,” Lina answered calmly. The other sheep whispered among themselves: “How odd she is… not like the rest of us at all.”

But Lina paid them no mind. Exploring, dreaming, and finding new things truly mattered to her. She wasn't being stubborn — she simply felt, deep down, that the world was far bigger than one single path.

One day, heavy clouds gathered over the valley. The sky went suddenly dark, and a fierce wind rose. Old Bruno, the shepherd's dog, grew uneasy — he had always had a nose for coming storms.

“To the fold!” rang out his booming bark. At once the sheep set off the way they always did — close together, just as ever. But Lina stood still. She gazed at the horizon. There, where the usual path ran, the sky looked darker than dark. The air seemed to hold its breath, and something inside her whispered: it is not safe to go that way.

Instead of running after the others, Lina turned aside — toward the tall pines. Among the trees she spotted a ledge of rock, and beneath it a little cave. She stepped inside and knew at once: here it was safe, dry, and quiet, though thunder already rumbled outdoors.
