Deep in a forest where the treetops brush the clouds lives Oscar, the fastest hare anyone has ever seen — and his most precious treasure is a little silver pocket watch that ticks along with every dash he takes. But when the watch vanishes one bright spring morning, Oscar's frantic search leads him to Gerald, a wise old bear with a gentle secret to share. A warm, funny story about learning that the world's true wonders appear only when you finally slow down long enough to see them.

Long, long ago, in a forest where the treetops brushed the very clouds and crystal streams sang their bubbling little songs, there lived a small hare named Oscar.

He was famous for being the fastest creature in the whole forest. His paws flickered like lightning as he raced along the winding trails, weaving between ancient oaks and soft, feathery firs. The other forest folk could only blink in wonder as a small gray ball of fur streaked past them, leaving nothing behind but a gentle puff of wind.

Oscar had one favorite thing in all the world — a silver pocket watch that he never, ever left behind. With it, he timed every single second of his lightning-quick forest races.

One bright spring morning, when the sun had only just begun to slip through the leaves and spill golden light across the forest, Oscar hopped out of his cozy little burrow, ready once again to feel the wind rush past his ears.

He did his usual morning stretches, dipped a paw into his pocket to check the time... and froze on the spot. His watch was gone. “My watch! Where did my watch go?!” cried Oscar, and his heart fluttered with worry.

He patted every pocket, sniffed the grass all around, and peeked beneath each and every leaf. But the watch was nowhere to be found. “I must have lost it on yesterday's run,” Oscar thought, and off he dashed along his usual route, searching every inch of the trail.

He looked under the blackberry bushes, peered behind the trees, and even plunged into the icy stream — but the watch had vanished as if into thin air.

With every passing minute, Oscar grew more flustered and more desperate. He ran this way and that, so fast that the whole world blurred into a smear of color. Birdsong, rustling leaves, the sweet scent of flowers — all of it slipped right past him, unnoticed.

At last, worn clean out, Oscar sank down beneath an old oak tree. His paws trembled with tiredness, and his heart pounded so loudly it seemed you could hear it clear across the forest. Without his precious watch, he felt as helpless as a fledgling fallen from its nest.

Suddenly Oscar heard heavy, steady footsteps that made the ground tremble ever so gently. It was Gerald — an old brown bear whose wisdom was known to every creature in the forest. His mighty frame breathed calm and certainty, and in his deep, knowing eyes shone all the kindness and understanding gathered over long years of forest life.
